Hawaii – Part 2
I suppose if you title something “Part 1″ there has to be a “Part 2″ also, huh? I’ve been using all my computer energy during the day at work lately – we’re launching 4 games this week and 2 more next week – and I’m totally worn out by the time I get home.
We really had a great time in Hawaii. We stayed at the Wyndham Vacation Resort- which was a trade for our Disney Vacation Club points. We’ve only traded points once before for Mexico, and this resort was just as nice as the place in Cancun. I can’t imagine traveling any other way – for our trade we got a 2-bedroom, 2 bathroom condo – with a full kitchen, living room and balcony. Perfect for traveling with a family. We had a lot of room to spread out and Jacoby could run around as much as he wanted.
Jacoby liked the condo a lot. His favorite things were:
- Ceiling fans – there was one in each bedroom, one in the living room and one on the balcony. And if they weren’t spinning, he was sure to let us know. “na na???” he would say and point up at the fan. The kid is obsessed with fans.
- The patio door – he loved opening it and closing the sliding screen door
- The path leading up to the condo – he would run up and down the path which was a slight hill. Jacoby loves hills. And running.
- The pool – kind of. He loved giving us a near heart-attack when we were near it because he would run full steam toward the pool. There wasn’t a very good kids pool – the one that they had was too deep for him. They did have a shallow part of the hot tub though which was sand bottom and he liked that quite a bit.
For the most part we had a relaxing trip. I usually like to stay busy on vacation and almost need a vacation from my vacation by the time I get home. A little bit of mom’s blood comes through as I read through travel guides and find the best place to eat out or the best little art gallery to visit. But this time all I really wanted to do was sit and relax. And we did. One day we drove to Volcano National Park, but the black sand beach on the way back was my favorite. We toured a coffee plantation – but since we had done that in Costa Rica too I spent most of the time chasing Jacoby around.
Ryan and I got out one night together and did some night snorkeling with manta rays. They take you out at night in a group and you shine flashlights into the water which attacts plankton – which in turn attracts manta rays to come eat. The rays are huge – anywhere from 8 – 12 feet across. The gracefully swoop up and down eating food – their big mouths coming at you like they are going to eat you. I think one got about 2 feet from my legs which made me a little nervous, but it was really a surreal experience. Very cool – I would recommend it to anyone.
We went to a nice white sand beach north of Kona called Hapuna Beach. It was absolutely beautiful and Jacoby loved kicking his feet in the sand, shoveling sand into a bucket and jumping in the waves. He would – as usual – take off at full speed and run into the ocean. Once there, we’d hold him up so he didn’t get knocked over and he would get splashed by waves. He would laugh and scream and stomp his feet when he saw the wave coming close to him. So much fun.
Onto the rest of the pictures!

Hawaii – Part 1
We went to Hawaii 2 weeks ago with Ryan’s parents for 7 wonderful days of sun, warmth and relaxation. We stayed in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii in a great 2-bedroom condo that we traded out Disney Vacation Club for.
I don’t have too much time to post about the trip tonight because Lost starts in 10 minutes, but I wanted to get some picture up before too much time passed!
Our trip in numbers:
- number of sunburns: 1 (Ryan)
- near heart attacks as Jacoby ran full speed toward the pool or into the ocean: 15
- hours of Cailou watched on airplane: 5
- days of sunshine: 8
- average temperature: 80 degrees
- manta rays spotted while night snorkeling: 3
- cups of Kona coffee: too many to count
- smoking volcano craters observed: 2
- smiles – 10,052
We thought this was funny because Jacoby says “nay nay” a lot:
Hawaii Volcano National Park
Inside a Lava Tube
Black Sand Beach
We love Kona Coffee!!!

Bath Toys
I’m realizing as I’m looking through pictures to post how few pictures we’ve taken since Christmas. That has to change!
We’re not up to too much – we’ve been remodeling our 2 guest rooms in the basement (might try to post about that later) and just spending time at home hanging out. Ryan and I are both training for a half marathon in March and running a bunch. Um… not much else than that. Hence why there hasn’t been posts in 3 weeks!
I did find a really cool bath toy the other day. Jacoby gets excited about getting in the bath – he likes to play with the running water as the bath fills up and he enjoys it after we pull the drain plug out when the water is draining out of the tub. But the part in the middle of the bath – not so exciting. I think he gets bored with his toys and doesn’t know what to do.
However – I found this cool faucet toy at the store the other day that solved our problems keeping him in the bath longer than 5 minutes. I has a button that turns the faucet on and off (buttons are BIG hit in this house) and comes with 3 different cups that fill up with water slightly differently. For the busy little kid, this toy is a HUGE hit.
